Para quem está tendo problemas com a instalação do PostgreSQL no Windows 7 64 bits ou outra distribuição e está recebendo mensagem de erro semelhante a problem running post-install step the database cluster initialisation failed a solução e simples. Não instale o programa na pasta padrão sugerida pelo instalador que é "C:\Arquivos de Programas" ou "c:\Program Files". Crie uma outra pasta, por exemplo, "C:\PostgreSQL\" e faça a instalação neste local. Aparentemente existem algumas restrições na pasta de sistema "C:\Program Files' que impede a instalação correta do sistema. Mesmo instalando com conta administrativa pode ocorrer o erro.
